A new two-dimensional manganese compound showing mu(1,3)-azido bridges
has been Synthesized and structurally characterised. The complex [{Mn
(minc)(2)(N-3)(2)}(n)], where mine corresponds to methyl isonicotinate
, crystallises in the monoclinic system, space group P2(1)/c, a = 12.4
24(5), b = 8.496(3), c = 8.399(4) Angstrom, beta = 96.41(3)degrees and
Z = 2. Magnetic measurements show behaviour typical of a two-dimensio
nal Heisenberg antiferromagnet with J=-2.24(2) cm(-1). Low-temperature
properties are discussed in comparison with those of Some molecular m
agnets of the [{MnL2(N-3)(2)}(n)] series.
