Abstract
This paper describes the performance evaluation studies of Poly Alumin ium Chloride (PAC) and alum in the removal of fluorides and some heavy metals (Fe, Mn, Cd, Cr and Pb) from drinking water. It was observed t hat fluoride removal was better with alum than with PAC. Heavy metal r emoval efficiency of these two coagulants show a similar trend over di fferent range of alkalinity of the test water. The removal of heavy me tals is enhanced with the increase in alkalinity.
