Abstract
The process of one carbon homologation of 5,6-dimethoxy-indan-1-ol aff orded an unexpected product that by comparison with one present in the literature was assigned as dimethoxy-1'H-inden-1'-yl)-5,6-dimethoxy-1 H-indene 1. Now we show by synthesis that the structure 1 was wrong an d the correct one corresponds to dimethoxy-1'H-inden-1'-yl)-5,6-dimeth oxy-1H-indene 4.
