Abstract
Biomass, production, nutrient input and mineralization dynamics of fin e and coarse roots in the top 0- to 30-cm soil layer were studied in 8 -, 14- and 17-year-old forest regrowths in the humid subtropics of nor th-eastern India. Fine root production and accumulation was strongly i nfluenced by climatic variables (rainfall, air temperature), soil cond itions (soil organic matter, total Kjeldahl nitrogen, available P) and vegetational characteristics (density, basal area).
