Gs. Setty et S. Venkatachalam, ELECTRO AND CONVENTIONAL FLOTATION STUDIES ON QUARTZ, Transactions of the Indian Institute of Metals, 50(5), 1997, pp. 377-381
Electro and conventional flotation experiments were carried out on nar
row size quartz fractions using Dodecylamine hydrochloride (C12H25NH3C
l), a cationic collector. The recovery values obtained in electroflota
tion were compared keeping the bubble surface area in one case and the
bubble flux in the other case constant in both electro and convention
al flotation. In electrolytic flotation, hydrogen bubbles were generat
ed at stainless steel plate cathode under different current densities.
In conventional flotation, high purity cylinder nitrogen gas was pass
ed through sintered frits of differing porosity. A video camera system
was used to measure the bubble sizes generated under various experime
ntal conditions. The results reveal that bubble size and bubble flux p
lay a vital role in determining the flotation recovery.
