In a modulation-doped GaAs/AlxGa1-xAs quantum well structure electrons
are excited from the lowest to higher subbands by a picosecond IR pul
se. Transient intersubband absorption spectra taken with picosecond ti
me resolution during the relaxation process reveal shifts of the broad
intersubband absorption band due to dynamic changes of the band struc
ture. The broad absorption profile, however, remains nearly unchanged
indicating only weak inhomogeneous contributions to the linewidth.
