A micropropagation procedure for juvenile and adult savory (Satureja o
bovata Lag.) explants is described. Pretreatment of the nutlets with g
ibberellic acid (0.57 mm) did not improve in vitro germination. Optimu
m shoot proliferation of juvenile and adult material was obtained on m
edium containing 2.22 mu M N-6-benzyladenine. Rooting and acclimatizat
ion of juvenile shoots were accomplished in vivo, while adult shoots w
ere rooted in vitro after 3 days of exposure to 4.92 mu M indole-3-but
yric acid followed by subsequent transfer to auxin-free medium. More t
han 95% survival of adult rooted plants was obtained during the acclim
atization phase. Chemical names used: gibberellic acid (GA(3)); N-6-be
nzyladenine (BA); indole-3-butyric acid (IBA); isopentenyladenine (2iP
).
