A. Thoms et al., DENITROGENATION OF STEEL MELTS WITH OXYGEN AND SULFUR BY INJECTION OFARGON UNDER REDUCED PRESSURE, Steel research, 68(11), 1997, pp. 475-478
Denitrogenation of steel melts with oxygen and sulphur was studied und
er reduced pressure by injection of argon. The rate of nitrogen desorp
tion was found to obey a reaction of second order. The macrokinetic ra
te increases with increasing Ar flowrate until bubble coalescence occu
rs in the melts. The effects of sulphur and oxygen on nitrogen desorpt
ion were evaluated from the experimental data. The dimensionless rate
constant far nitrogen is described by k(N)(F) = 1.11 (1 + 160aO(0) + 1
40aS)(-1/2) - 0.11. A reasonable agreement was obtained in comparison
with the results of other investigators.
