Exclusive formation of either 2- or 4-trifluoromethyl(1H,5)arylodiazep
ines (5,7)/(6,8) was observed in the condensation of 1,1,1-trifloro-3-
(isobutoxymethylene)-2-propanones 2/3 with o-arylenediamines 4 under m
icrowave irradiation conditions. Thermal reactions under the same temp
erature and time produced no products. Orthoaminophenols 9 and o-amino
thiophenol 12 with 2 and 3 under the same conditions produced the resp
ective oxazepines 10,11 and thiazepines 13,14. The. synthetic equvalen
t 1 gave similarly benzimidazoles 15, benzoxazoles 16 and benzthiazole
