The new copper(I) sheet compound [Cu2Cl2(pyz)](n) (pyz=pyrazine) (1) h
as been synthesized and characterized. 1 crystallizes in the triclinic
, space group <P(1)over bar> with a=6.885(2) Angstrom, b=7.5719(6) Ang
strom, c=3.752(1) Angstrom, alpha=98.84(1)degrees, beta=92.27(2)degree
s, gamma=106.55(2)degrees, U=184.55(7) Angstrom(3), and Z=1. Crystal s
tructure consists of one-dimensional CuCln ladders and stacked pyz col
umns. Infinite, zigzag ribbons are formed by Cu(I) ions and chlorides.
The ladders extend along the c-direction, and are linked by pyz molec
ules which coordinate to adjacent copper atoms, forming a two-dimensio
nal sheet. The pyz molecules are stacked in the sheet and make a colum
n along the c-axis. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A.
