Abstract
The scientific community and the general public are intrigued by the p otential use of gene therapy to tackle disease at its origin, and the resulting benefits to the quality of life. At the same time, pharmaceu tical researchers are beginning to appreciate how an understanding of the genetic basis of disease, and its associated technologies may revo lutionize the discovery process for new drugs. Therefore, companies mu st understand and anticipate how licensing and rights issues are likel y to evolve with the science.
