Jp. Giroud et al., RATE OF LIQUID MIGRATION THROUGH DEFECTS IN A GEOMEMBRANE PLACED ON ASEMI-PERMEABLE MEDIUM, Geosynthetics international, 4(3-4), 1997, pp. 349-372
This paper provides an equation for calculating the rate of liquid mig
ration through a defect in a geomembrane underlain by a semi-permeable
medium. In the context of this paper, a semi-permeable medium is a me
dium that has a hydraulic conductivity greater than k(G) and smaller t
han ks,where k(G) is the hydraulic conductivity above which Giroud's e
quation is not valid and k(B) the hydraulic conductivity below which B
ernoulli's equation is not valid. Giroud's equation is an equation tha
t gives the rate of liquid migration through a defect in a geomembrane
underlain by a low-permeability medium, and Bernoulli's equation is t
he equation that gives the rate of free flow through an orifice and wh
ich is used to calculate the rate of liquid migration through a defect
in a geomembrane underlain by a very permeable medium. The equation f
or semi-permeable media presented in this paper was obtained by interp
olation between Giroud's equation and Bernoulli's equation.
