This article discusses various components of the theory of the gendere d gaze, in order to construct a framework for an analysis of how Willi am Faulkner understood and fictionally presented the mechanism of the gaze in Light in August. Linking theory and praxis, this article explo res the relationship between patriarchy and gender construction in Fau lkner's literary representation of visual structures in this major nov el.
