Abstract
Spirotetronate 4 needed for the assignment of stereochemistry to the q uartromicins has been synthesized from 9 and 10 by a route featuring a Claisen rearrangement and intramolecular aldol reaction to establish the stereochemistry of the carbon framework. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
