Abstract
Wien's displacement law for the wavelength of maximum intensity of a b lackbody is extended to nonequilibrium systems. A non-vanishing temper ature gradient causes a correction in the displacement law that is pre dicted and estimated making use of information theory. A simple applic ation is presented.
