Ai. Bondarenko et al., INVESTIGATION OF THE BREAKUP OF A TARGET NUCLEUS IN NUCLEUS-NUCLEUS COLLISIONS AT AN INCIDENT MOMENTUM OF 4.2 GEV C PER NUCLEON/, Physics of atomic nuclei, 60(11), 1997, pp. 1833-1842
Carbon nucleus breakup induced by incident protons, deuterons, a parti
cles, and carbon nuclei with a momentum of 4.2 GeV/c per nucleon is in
vestigated. The mean multiplicities, emission angles, and momentum cha
racteristics of secondary particles are measured as functions of the a
tomic weight of the projectile nucleus. These data are compared with t
he features of inelastic pC, dC, alpha C, and CC collisions. At least
two mechanisms of nucleus-nucleus interactions-the nuclear cascade and
the evaporation of target fragments-are found to contribute to the br
eakup of carbon nuclei.
