This paper describes the development of a design-oriented graduate cou
rse on switching power supplies, and the benefits of a co-requisite si
mulation laboratory. The final design project provides the student wit
h many degrees of freedom and multiple solutions, more accurately capt
uring the true nature of power supply design.
