Abstract
A polar compound was isolated from an aqueous acetone extract of Pinus densiflora inner bark and identified as D-catechin, (2R,3S)-3,5,7,3', 4'-pentahydroxyflavan. The compound stimulated oviposition of the cera mbycid beetle, Monochamus alternatus when combined with a fraction of the same extract. The oviposition stimulant activity was enhanced by a n unidentified compound from the extract. D-Catechin was inactive alon e.
