A MULTIDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH ON VERBESINA-CARACASANA

Two hypotensive agents have been isolated from Verbesina caracasana Fr ies and attributed the structure of amoyl)amino]-4-[(3-methyl-2-buteny l)guanido]butane and thoxy]di[N-(3-methylbut-3-enyl)guanidobutyl]amide , respectively. The structures of the two compounds have been confirme d by syntheses and their pharmacological profiles established. Studies on cell cultures of Verbesina caracasana gave unexpected results show ing that a beta-glucosyltransferase is active in whole cells.
