Oa. Saether et Lc. Ferrington, A REVIEW OF THE GENUS SEMIOCLADIUS SUBLETTE ET WIRTH, 1980 (DIPTERA, CHIRONOMIDAE), Aquatic insects, 19(4), 1997, pp. 219-236
A generic diagnosis for the genus Semiocladius Sublette et Wirth and a
key to the male imagines is given. The systematic position of the gen
us is close to Thalassosmittia Strenzke et Remmert based on imagines a
nd pupa while the tentatively associated larva possibly could belong t
o another genus with marine larvae. Semiocladius crassipennis (Skuse),
S. endocladiae (Tokunaga) and S. brevicornis (Tokunaga) are redescrib
ed in both sexes, and the presumptive larva of S. kuscheli Sublette et
Wirth redescribed. A pupa collected from Lord Howe Island in the West
ern Pacific Ocean is described, illustrated and tentatively assigned t
o the genus. The generic diagnosis for pupae is expanded to include th
is species.
