Abstract
Portal vein thrombosis has been associated with umbilical venous cathe terization. mie studied the incidence of portal vein thrombosis associ ated with umbilical venous catheterization with the catheter tip not i n the portal venous system, Appropriate placement of an umbilical veno us catheter in sick neonates is associated with a low risk of portal v ein thrombosis (actual incidence, 1.3%).
