Abstract
Changes in the distribution of Red and Grey Squirrels in Forestry Comm ission land were examined using a replacement index for the period of 1980-94. Data from each administrative region in Scotland were examine d separately. No region was found to have experienced a significant re placement of Red Squirrels by Grey Squirrels. However, significant tre nds in the area occupied by one or both Squirrel species were observed in the Borders and Strathclyde. Other areas appear to have experience d little or inconsistent changes in the last 15 years.
