Yf. Liu et al., CUTANEOUS INFECTION BY SCEDOSPORIUM-APIOSPERMUM AND ITS SUCCESSFUL TREATMENT WITH ITRACONAZOLE, Clinical and experimental dermatology, 22(4), 1997, pp. 198-200
We report the case of a 42-year-old man with a 13-year history of bila
teral faciocervical infiltrative erythema, which had been misdiagnosed
as tuberculoderma and which had failed to respond to treatment with a
drenal corticosteroids and antituberculotics. On admission to the depa
rtment, Scedosporium apiospermum was identified on lesion biopsies and
fungus cultures as the causative agent and a diagnosis of cutaneous i
nfection by S. apiospermum was made. This is the first report of chron
ic skin granuloma caused by S. apiospermum in China. Treatment with or
al itraconazole (100-100 mg/day) led to clinical cure within 4 months.
