Abstract
Here we show how Mg2+ and Mn2+ function in Escherichia coli phosphoeno lpyruvate carboxykinase (PCK) and we propose a general model for the r ole of binuclear metal clusters in enzyme-catalyzed phosphoryl-transfe r reactions.
