Abstract
Psychopharmacology has continually informed the biological perspective of major depression. Antidepressants affect a variety of neurotransmi tters by a wide range of pharmacological actions, The complexity of th ese neurotransmitter receptor interactions likely underlies the discre pancies observed in biochemical and physiological responses among appa rently clinically homogenous depressive subgroups. This report provide s an integrated review of the neuroendocrine and neurochemical perspec tives of unipolar depression and how these advances influence the psyc hopharmacotherapy of unipolar major depression.
