Abstract
The title molecule has trans geometry about the azo linkage. The dihed ral angle between the two phenyl rings is 47.1(5)degrees and the twist angle for the nitro group is 24.4(3)degrees. The effect of the nitro group on the geometry of the molecule is discussed. In this crystal st ructure, the molecules pack through pi ...pi and van der Waals interac tions.
