The structure of naturally occurring pseudouridine, 5-beta-D-ribofuran
osyl-2,4(1H,3H)-pyrimidin C9H12N2O6, was determined by direct methods.
The asymmetric unit contains two independent pseudouridine molecules,
with anti orientation of the base with respect to the ribose moiety i
n both molecules, but with different sugar-ring conformations. The cry
stal structure is characterized by an extensive hydrogen-bonding netwo
rk.
