Solid phase polymeric analogue of benzyltriethylammonium dichloroiodat
e and dibromoiodate reagents have been prepared and used as recyclable
reagents for synthetic transformations on some organic substrates. Th
e development of these reagents involve polymer analogous conversions
starting from crosslinked polystyrene resin. The polymeric polyhalides
have been used for the addition reactions of olefins under mild condi
tions. These reagents are found to undergo addition according to Marko
wnikoff's rule in good yields. The spent dichloroiodate and dibromoiod
ate reagents after the synthetic reactions are easily removed by filtr
ation and can be recycled and reutilized.
