Y. Yoshida et al., EFFICACY OF ANTITHROMBIN CONCENTRATES IN TREATMENT FOR ASTHMATIC SYMPTOMS COMPLICATED IN ANTITHROMBIN ABNORMALITY WITH NO HEPARIN-BINDING ACTIVITY, Clinical and applied thrombosis/hemostasis, 3(4), 1997, pp. 288-289
It is well-known that pulmonary embolism sometimes accompanies a bronc
hoconstrictive symptom, but the precise mechanism is not clearly under
stood. We report a unique case of antithrombin (AT) abnormality with n
o heparin-binding activity accompanied by pulmonary thromboembolism an
d asthmatic symptoms. Keeping AT activity >60% by infusion of AT conce
ntrates, we successfully treated the asthmatic symptom, which did not
respond to ordinary treatment for bronchial asthma and the anticoagula
nt therapy by warfarin potassium for pulmonary thromboembolism.
