Abstract
A sediment core from the southern Dead Sea was analyzed using gamma sp ectroscopy as well as Pb-210 dating in order to ascertain if any radio active contamination could be detected and to determine the sedimentat ion rates in the area. Results of this study show no presence of man-m ade radionuclides in the area. Sedimentation rates were determined to be between 0.25 and 0.4 g/cm(2)/year. (similar to 0.5 cm/year), which is in line with what would be expected assuming carbonate layers are a nnual varves.
