OBSERVATION OF VORTEX-LIKE COHERENT STRUCTURES IN THE EDGE PLASMA OF THE ADITYA TOKAMAK

Vortex-like coherent structures are observed in the edge plasma of ohm ically heated ADITYA tokamak [Phys. Rev. Lett. 69, 1375 (1992)]. The s tructures. are;observed on statistical basis when the. floating potent ial fluctuations are analyzed using conditional averaging technique. T he structures, which have dipole nature, experience stretching until t heir radial isolation across the limiter is destroyed. The potential f luctuation also shows non-Gaussian statistics indicating intermittency in broadband turbulence of the edge plasma. (C) 1997 American Institu te of Physics.
