Polarized cw and time-resolved excited-state absorption spectra were m
easured in Cr4+-doped Mg2SiO4 in the 200-2200 nm spectral region, Pola
rization-dependent excited-state absorption was observed in the infrar
ed due to the T-3(2) --> T-3(1a) transitions extending from 1100 to 21
00 nm, in the visible between 600 and 800 nm (E\\alpha) due to the T-3
(2) --> T-3(1b) transition, as well as in the UV range from 200 to 450
nm, likely due to the charge transfer transitions. Stimulated emissio
n between 1100 and 1500 nm was observed in Cr4+:Mg2SiO4 for E\\b polar
ization.
