Gw. Barone et al., PNEUMOAPPENDIX AFTER AN INVERSION APPENDECTOMY - AN UNREPORTED RADIOLOGIC FINDING, Southern medical journal, 90(12), 1997, pp. 1250-1252
Radiographically detectable gas only occasionally fills the lumen of t
he vermiform appendix (pneumoappendix), and the diagnostic significanc
e of this gas remains unresolved in the radiologic literature. The fol
lowing case report is a previously unreported finding of a postoperati
ve plain abdominal radiograph showing a dilated pneumoappendix after a
n inversion-ligation appendectomy. A brief review of the surgical tech
nique is included to help explain these radiographic findings.
