Results of specific heat, magnetic susceptibility, magnetization, and
electrical resistivity for the heavy fermion alloy system U2Cu17-xAlx
(5 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 10) are presented. Th
e nonmagnetic alloy U2Cu12Al5 exhibits non-Fermi-liquid characteristic
s at low temperatures: p proportional to T and C/T proportional to lnT
. These non-Fermi-liquid characteristics also persist for other alloys
corresponding to x>5, which are all weakly magnetic. This magnetic be
havior is revealed by a maximum in zero-field-cooled chi, a discrepanc
y between zero-field-cooled and field-cooled chi below this maximum, a
nd a corresponding shoulder in C/T. The transition temperature identif
ied by the shoulder in C/T is largest for x=8 (about 2.5 K) and decrea
ses monotonically for either increasing or decreasing x.
