Raymond B. Cattell was selected to receive the Gold Medal Award for Li
fe Achievement from the American Psychological Foundation. The award c
eremony was canceled at the last minute when threats were made to disr
upt the Chicago convention of the APA amid charges that Cattell's work
was racist. It took only two political activists to derail the APE. T
his event is analyzed as an instance of Inquisitional attack on ration
al thought and inquiry, in the context of modem liberalism with radica
l egalitarianism.
