G. Vilkaitis et al., AN ALL-GLASS PLANAR ELECTRON-OPTICAL INTENSIFIER WITH A MICROCHANNEL PLATE, Instruments and experimental techniques, 40(5), 1997, pp. 645-646
The design of an all-glass electron-optical intensifier (EOI) with a m
icrochannel plate, whose main parts are made of glass and quartz, is d
escribed. The bases of the photocathode and screen are sealed to the c
ase with the help of hard-tipped indium gaskets pressed against the me
tallized surfaces of the jointed parts. Owing to this technique, the E
OI assembling accuracy depends only on the manufacturing accuracy of i
ts individual units. Utilizing the Cr-Cu sublayer, along with the main
indium layer for sealing the EOI units, ensures a stable coating with
good adhesion over a wide temperature interval from -50 to 400 degree
s C. Based on the described design and technology, experimental EOIs w
ith an active area diameter of 24 mm, a case diameter of 40 mm, and a
height of 13 mm, were manufactured. The spectral band of the EOI sensi
tivity ranges from 200 to 850 nm and resolution equals 20 mm(-1).
