Abstract
The mycelial dry weight of Sporotrichum thermophile reached a maximum of 101 +/- 2 mg after 6 days of growth and then declined to 57 +/- 6 m g after an additional 16 days of growth. Extracellular-reducing-sugar concentration reached its maximum range of 1.16 +/- 0.38 mg/ml after 4 days of growth, decreasing to 0.515 +/- 0.076 mg/ml after 10 days, bu t resumed the maximum range after 14 days and maintained it through th e remaining 8 days studied. Extracellular amylase activity reached 45. 2 +/- 3.7 m-units after 6 days of growth, declining to 17.4 +/- 0.8 m- units after an additional 16 days of growth.
