In an increasingly globalized and interlinked world economy, the diffi
culties of implementing effective technology acquisition and utilizati
on programs are important forces driving economic growth. The lack of
clear understanding of technological innovation calls for a model to p
rovide a better understanding of technology acquisition and utilizatio
n process. Therefore, the goal of this study is to develop a ''Technol
ogy Acquisition and Utilization Model (TAUM)'' by conducting a survey
instrument in manufacturing organizations in a developed country (U.S.
) and a developing country (Turkey). Through the use of such a model,
policy makers can develop more effective decisions regarding industria
l competitiveness. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
