Pa. Conz et al., CANNULATION OF THE INTERNAL JUGULAR-VEIN - COMPARISON OF THE CLASSIC SELDINGER TECHNIQUE AND AN ULTRASOUND-GUIDED METHOD, JN. Journal of nephrology, 10(6), 1997, pp. 311-313
Central venous catheterization allows immediate and easy vascular acce
ss for hemodialysis. Accidental arterial puncture is the most frequent
complication of central vein cannulation and may occur in up to 8% of
cases with the classic Seldinger procedure. We compared the Seldinger
technique which implies manual localization of the vascular access, a
nd an ultrasound guided technique, to assess whether the latter is an
improvement on the Seldinger procedure.
