F. Vajda et al., EXPERIMENTAL VALIDATION OF THE PREISACH ACCOMMODATION PROPERTIES OF RECORDING MEDIA, Journal of applied physics, 81(8), 1997, pp. 5227-5229
The characterization of accommodation plays an important role in deter
mining both the archival and the recording properties of magnetic reco
rding materials. In this article the basic properties of the recently
proposed accommodation paper were experimentally investigated on a com
mercial flexible disk material. The new technique of operative field a
ccommodation was used in our measurements. It was seen that the direct
ion of the drift in remanence depends on the initial field reversal an
d that the amount of accommodation depends not only on the width of th
e minor loop, but the extrema values, as well. Although the amount of
accommodation depends on the field reversal points, it was seen that f
or any initial field reversal point, when cycling between the same ope
rative field values, the stable minor loop is always the same. It was
found that if \h(1)\=\h(2)\, that is, the accommodation process is sym
metrical in the operative field, the stable minor loop is also symmetr
ical. The amount of accommodation was found to be maximized for a proc
ess in which \h(1)\=\h(2)\=h(i). The latter property could be utilized
to accurately measure the accommodation parameter, beta. (C) 1997 Ame
