In vitro propagation by dormant, meristem culture of apricot (Prunus a
rmeniaca L.) cv. 'Bakuoh junkyou' was investigated by placing 1 mm sho
ot tips on four kinds of basal media (WP, MS, B5 and 1/2 MS) with cyto
kinins. Judging by survival rates and shoot length, the best medium wa
s WP supplemented with BA or CPPU with 100% survival, whereas WP suppl
emented with 2 ip yielded 80% survival. For shoot proliferation, BA wa
s most effective among 3 kinds of cytokinins tested, whereas zeatin an
d 2 ip were more effective for shoot elongation. IBA promoted rooting,
the optimum being 2 mu M; no rooting occurred without IBA treatment.
The rooting ability of shoots increased with the number of subcultures
; a maximum of 86.7% was attained after the 20 th subculture.
