Eleven species of wood-rotting basidiomycetes in the Coniophoraceae ar
e reported from the state of Hawai'i. Coniophora kauaiensis is describ
ed as new. Gyrodontium versicolor is reported from the United States f
or the first time. Seven species are reported on introduced conifers a
nd ten are reported on native or introduced hardwoods. All are confirm
ed or probable brown rot fungi and have an important role in decomposi
tion and formation of stable brown rot residues as a soil component in
Hawaiian forest ecosystems.
