The concept of endometriosis and strategies for its treatment are revi
ewed. Treatment is mainly endocrine-based, using progestogens, danazol
and luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) agonists. Such treat
ment is complex, and therapy strategies have to be tailored to the ind
ividual; the choice of treatment, therefore, depends on the metabolic
and side-effects of each compound.
