Two cases of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) of the vulva and a
literature review are hereby presented. In addition, the histopatholo
gical features and overlap with cellular benign fibrous histiocytoma,
deep penetrating dermatofibroma, and solitary fibrous tumor are highli
ghted. Distinction from the former two conditions can be achieved by t
he pattern of extension into subcutaneous fat and CD34 immunopositivit
y in DFSP. The behavior of DFSP is invariably of local recurrence, unl
ess complete excision is achieved. The role of Mohs micrographic surge
ry in achieving this is also addressed.
