R. Desalvo, WHY PEOPLE LIKE THE HYBRID PHOTODIODE, Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section A, Accelerators, spectrometers, detectors and associated equipment, 387(1-2), 1997, pp. 92-96
The Hybrid PhotoDiode (HPD) tube is a new kind of photodetector compos
ed of a vacuum photodiode in which the photocathode is coupled to a PI
N diode. It presents peculiarities and performances radically differen
t from those of most existing photon detectors. Because of these chara
cteristics the HPD is generating vast interest in the scientific commu
nity and may be useful in a variety of demanding environments.
