Abstract
Two new fullerene derivatives have been synthesized, which tend to for m Langmuir monolayers. Robust monomolecular layers are formed at the a ir/water interface, that can be transferred onto hydrophilic substrate s by Langmuir-Blodgett or Langmuir-Schaefertechniques. The measured ar eas per molecule (105 Angstrom(2) for 1a dropped from a deuteriochloro form solution at 20 degrees C) reach those expected for a true monolay er of C-60 at the air/water interface.
