Abstract
A new metastable layered titanium arsenate, isostructural with Ti2O3(H 2PO4)(2) . 2H(2)O, has been synthesized by acid treatment of the frame work compound NH4TiOAsO4 at ambient temperature. Based on elemental an alysis, IR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetry the fo rmula Ti2O3(H2AsO4)(2) . 2H(2)O was assigned to the novel compound. Th e layered nature of the compound was confirmed from amine intercalatio n and the ion exchange behavior towards alkali and alkaline earth meta ls.
