Abstract
This paper proposes a two-layer dynamic load balancing method at the r endering stage of a vehicle simulator. First layer partitions the imag e into equal portions to support a well balanced display update proces s, whilst tile second layer incorporates a method to balance the compu tation load by effectively partitioning a portion of all image into se veral strips of a specified sue. Separate measurements and analysis of the processing and communication overheads to evaluate the suitabilit y of the proposed load balancing method at the rendering stage have be en presented. The method of partitioning the image to be rendered and its effects on the computation and communication time were also examin ed closely. Based on the analysis of the results, a suitable architect ure to support the two-layer dynamic load balancing technique is prese nted.
