It was established that the rate of alkaline hydrolysis of polymeric e
sters of a number of monocarboxylic acids falling into the category of
plant growth regulators of the auxin group (2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic
, 1-naphthylacetic, 2-naphthoxyacetic, and 2-naphthylthioacetic) decre
ases as the strength of the acid decreases and the molecular mass of t
he polymer increases. The presence of side carbonyl groups also reduce
s the rate of hydrolysis. Using polymeric esters of 2,4-dichlorophenox
yacetic acid as an example, it was shown that, for the polymers with l
ow rates of hydrolysis, the zone of the maximum stimulating activity s
hifts to the region of higher concentrations.
