Al. Volynskii et al., THE BREAKDOWN OF SOLID COATING DURING TEN SILE DRAWING OF POLYMER SUPPORT, Vysokomolekularnye soedinenia. Seria A, 39(11), 1997, pp. 1827-1832
Using the methods of light and scanning electron microscopy, the break
down of a thin platinum coating was studied during tensile drawing of
PET and rubber supports. Under similar conditions, the sizes of the fr
actured fragments are shown to depend on the stress stored by polymer
matrix during deformation and on the thickness of the deposited metall
ic layer. A theoretical consideration within the framework of the mode
l of rigid coating deposited onto a soft support allows an adequate de
scription of all peculiar features of the behavior of the above system
s. This model provides an adequate description for the breakdown of a
rigid coating during tensile drawing of polymer support.
